2017 Sharks Battery Anchored by Presbyterian Trio

When pitchers Ryan Hall and Colt Springs toe the rubber for the first time at Buck Hardee Field this Summer, they’ll see a familiar face looking back at them just a little over 60 feet, six inches away. Thatcher Coleman will be putting down signs for Hall and Springs, as he is currently doing with his 2017 Presbyterian College battery-mates, and they anticipate big things for this year’s Sharks’ squad.

Asked about his personal expectations, Coleman said, “I’m mainly focused on helping The Sharks win the Petitt Cup. I know Coach Wingo has a bunch of talent headed to Wilmington this summer, so I am looking forward to contributing towards a League Championship.”

Meanwhile, when he’s not fashioning a 3.52 ERA in support of a Presbyterian squad that sits atop the Big South Conference, Hall is setting his sights on his future opposition. “I am excited to compete in the CPL against some great competition. Having Thatcher and Colt on the same team this summer is going to be really fun. They are great guys and it is going to be awesome getting to spend another few months with them. It will definitely be a slight advantage being able to throw to a catcher I have been throwing to all year because you know each others’ tendencies.”

With that said, Sharks fans should expect to see a nice dynamic between Coleman and the pitching staff this season.  “I think my biggest strength comes with the mental side of it. I enjoy working with the pitchers, calling pitches, keeping hitters off-balance and uncomfortable, and I take pride in doing those things well.”

Those things that Coleman describes can easily go unnoticed by the casual baseball fan, but Sharks fans won’t have to wait long to watch him help the club win games by having a hand in the success of his pitchers. “I believe Colt and Ryan give us a great advantage, and will put us in a position to win a lot of baseball games this summer. I have worked with them pretty consistently over the course of the season, and we work extremely well together. I am looking forward to seeing those two get on the mound for The Sharks.”

The 20th Anniversary season is shaping up to be another year great year for Wilmington Sharks Baseball, as they prepare for Opening Night on Tuesday May 30th.
