First Annual Santa Jaws Review

The Wilmington Sharks are pleased to announce their first “Santa Jaws Sports Gear Drive for a Cause” was a success. Through a steady stream of donations for six hours at Buck Hardee Field on Saturday December 16th, the Sharks were able to raise an estimated $3,700 worth of new and slightly used sports equipment.

“Thanks to the public’s generosity, countless children in our area will benefit from the sporting goods collected.  We plan to make this an annual event which will have an even bigger impact next year,” said Tom Lamont, Director of Community Relations.

All of these donations will be distributed by the end of the week among five local charities: Brigade Boys and Girls Club, First Tee of Greater Wilmington, Police Athletic League of Wilmington, One Love Tennis, and Miracle League of Wilmington.

We are so thankful to the Sharks organization for a wonderful event that brought awareness to our community and the opportunity to give back in the spirit of the holiday season”, says Hayley Sink, Executive Director of ACCESS of Wilmington. “Our Miracle League baseball players and ACCESS Fit program participants will greatly benefit from the new equipment for many seasons to come!”

“More than balls, bats, and hoops, what the Sharks have given our kids is opportunities,” says Steve Wilson, Brigade Boys & Girls Club's Director of New Hanover and Pender County. “Healthy lifestyles and sports and recreation are two of our five core programs at Brigade Boys & Girls Club, and having the equipment to have fun while learning will help the lessons become lifestyles. We’re fortunate to have organizations like the Sharks investing in our community.”

The Wilmington Sharks plan to expand upon this program, and host another Santa Jaws in December 2018. For more information on the Wilmington Sharks and their programs, visit or call the Sharks office at 910-343-5621.
