Petitt Cup Championship Series Schedule Changes

Game 1 between the Gastonia Grizzlies and the Wilmington Sharks was suspended in the top half of the second inning at Sims Legion Park. The Sharks are currently on top 4-0 with 2 outs in the inning with Justin Dean on first and Michael Sandle coming to the plate.

Game 1 will resume Tuesday afternoon at 12, noon at Sims Legion Park in Gastonia, NC.

This means Game 2 has been pushed back to Wednesday, when the gates will open at 5:00 P.M. with the game beginning at 6:05 P.M. If a Game 3 is necessary, it will follow Game 2 on Wednesday night.

Games 2 and 3 of the Petitt Cup Championship will be in the CPL doubleheader format. Regardless if needed, both games will be 7 inning contests.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 21st season in 2017, the CPL features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,100 alumni drafted and 93 alums – including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander – make their Major League debut thus far.
