Sharks Snap Losing Streak in Holly Springs
Coming off their longest losing streak of the season, the Wilmington Sharks (31-21, 15-10) returned to their winning ways as they topped the Holly Springs Salamanders (21-32, 11-16) 3-1 on Saturday night.
The Sharks scored early when Brett Smith (Bucknell) scored on a groundout to give the Sharks a lead. Madison Stokes (South Carolina) drove home Grant Koch (Arkansas) to push the lead to two. Holly Springs got one back in the fourth with a home run, but the Sharks countered with a Ward Coleman (Davidson) sacrifice fly in the sixth.
The Salamanders were held hitless through the first three innings, and outside of the home run, struggled on offense. The Sharks could have held a larger lead, but left eight runners on base.
The win went to Robert Moss (0-1). He threw two innings, with one hit, no runs, one walk and no strikeouts. JT Rogoszewski (6-3) took the loss, pitching six innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Ryan Kelly (7) got the save with one perfect inning.
The Sharks will finish out the season on the road, traveling to Morehead City for a doubleheader.
