Salamanders Overpower Sharks

The Sharks and Salamanders combined for 15 runs on 20 hits, but it was Holly Springs (10-22) coming out on top against Wilmington (11-20) by a score of 10-5.

The visitors scored first in the top of the third. With the bases loaded and one out, Danny Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to left to score the game's first run.

Holly Springs responded with a three spot in the bottom of the inning. The Salamanders added three more in third to jump out to a 6-1 advantage.

Wilmington worked its way back on the scoreboard in the fifth. Ben Anderson singled home Ben LaSpaluto to cut the deficit to four.

Then in the seventh, the Sharks moved back into striking distance. Ben LaSpaluto crushed his second home run of the summer against his former team to make it 6-4. Then with one out, Mason Streater reached on a fielder's choice to drive in a run to make it a one run ball game.

The Salamanders would score the game's final four runs, including three more in the eighth to close out the Sharks.

Holly Springs used nine different pitchers but it was Riley Myers (1-1) earning the win after allowing one run in the fourth inning. Sharks starter Austin Skipper (0-1) lost lasting only 2.2 innings.

The Sharks have lost two in a row after winning the first four games in the second half.

Wilmington is off for the next three days for the All-Star Break. The Sharks return home Wednesday night to face the Morehead City Marlins.
