Sharks Pitching Dominant in First Home Win

Wilmington, NC-Thanks to a dominant performance from the pitching staff, the Wilmington Sharks recorded their first home win of the season with a 5-2 victory over the Fayetteville SwampDogs Saturday night at Buck Hardee Field in front of 1,335 fans.  The victory improved the Sharks record to 3-4 on the season.

Caleb Bishop went six innings in his start on the mound for the Sharks.  He gave up two runs, with only one of them being earned, and allowed only three hits and two walks with one strike out.

"I went into the game knowing I had to be better than my last start," said Bishop.  "I just had to focus up a lot more.  That was basically my focus the entire game."

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Dallas Callahan drew a walk to begin the inning for the Sharks.  He then stole second.  With one out, CJ Conrad walked.  Zachary Bridges followed with a single to load the bases.  Cam Jenson was hit by pitch to put the Sharks on the board.  Tilo Skole then drove home the tying run on a squeeze play.  With two outs, Jonah Beamon hit a two-run single to give the Sharks a 4-2 lead.

The Sharks loaded the bases with nobody out for a second time in the eighth.  Jenson then hit a sacrifice fly to give the Sharks a little insurance with a 5-2 lead.

Andrew Kaminsky came on in relief for Bishop to begin the seventh and dealt a three-up-three-down with one strikeout.  Austin Parsley then pitched a scoreless eighth and a scoreless ninth to record the six out save.  He ran into trouble in the eighth when the SwampDogs hit back-to-back two-out singles bringing Carson Bartels to the plate representing the go ahead run.  He hit a line drive to Sharks first basemen Cory Everett who made a leaping catch to end the threat.
