Sharks Rally in Ninth for Thrilling Win

Holly Springs, NC-With the game tied at four in the top of the ninth inning, Cory Everett came up to bat for the Wilmington Sharks with runners on the corners and one out.  He hit a two-run triple to give the Sharks a 6-4 lead over the Holly Springs Salamanders Tuesday night at Ting Stadium.  The Sharks closed out the game in the bottom of the inning for a 6-5 victory snapping a three-game losing streak and improving to 4-7 on the season.

The ninth inning rally began with the Sharks trailing 4-3.  James Parker led off the inning with a single.  Zachary Bridges followed with a single advancing Parker to third.  Bridges advanced to second on a throw.  With one out, Tucker Greer singled home Parker and advanced Cameron Reeves, who pinch ran for Bridges, to third, setting up Everett's winning hit.

The Sharks led 3-0 with one out in the bottom of the sixth when three straight Salamanders reached base to load the bases and knock Sharks starter Mike Picollo out of the game.  Piccolo was outstanding in five and a third innings of work.  He gave up two runs off only one hit and struck out two.

Ian Bailey then hit a grand slam to give the Salamanders the 4-3.  Piccolo had a shutout going at the time he exited the game but was responsible for two of the base runners that were driven home by Bailey resulting in his two earned runs.

The Sharks got on the board first when Jacob Plastiak hit a two-run home run in the top of the third making it 2-0.  Steven Curry hit an RBI double in the fifth to extend the Sharks lead to 3-0.

The Sharks will be back in action Thursday night against the Morehead City Marlins at O'Neal Field at Big Rock Stadium.

The Sharks will return to Buck Hardee Field on Friday night against the Salamanders.  It is Super-Hero Night presented by Children's Museum of Wilmington.  It will feature a post-game-fireworks show presented by AARP.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM with the gates opening at 6PM.
