Sharks Blank Salamanders

Wilmington, North Carolina-The Wilmington Sharks set a new season high for runs scored en route to defeating the Holly Springs Salamanders 10-0 Friday night in front of 1,337 fans at Buck Hardee Field for their first shutout of the season.  The victory improved the Sharks to 5-8 on the season.

The Sharks jumped on the Salamanders right out of the gate with Steven Curry leading off with a single in the first.  Jacob Plastiak followed with a walk.  With one out, Chad Fairey singled home Curry in his first career Sharks at bat.  With two outs, Dallas Callahan singled home Pastiak and Fairey giving the Sharks the early 3-0 lead.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Curry recorded another single.  He advanced to third on a wild pick off attempt.  Plastiak singled him home bringing his current hit streak to six games.  Plastiak then stole second and advanced to third on a balk.  Corey Everett followed with a walk and then stole second.  Fairey drove home Plastiak on an RBI ground out to make it 5-0.  A throwing error on a ball hit by James Parker allowed Everett to score making it 6-0.

Jonah Beamon hit a one-out solo home run in the sixth to extend the Sharks lead to 7-0.  The Sharks batted around in the seventh and added an additional three runs to go up 10-0.

Sharks starter Garrett McDaniels was lights out giving up only six hits in four innings of shutout ball.  He struck out eight and got out of bases loaded jams in the third and fourth innings.  Austin Skipper came on in relief to begin the fifth and recorded four strikeouts without allowing any runs through the seventh.  Jaret Montenery then pitched a scoreless eighth and a scoreless ninth to complete the shutout.

The Sharks will be back in action Saturday night against the Morehead City Marlins at Buck Hardee Field.  The first 500 kids into the stadium will receive a free Sharks jersey as part of a Kids Jersey Giveaway presented by Van Products Mobility.  Caleb Bishop (1-1, 3.60) will start on the mound for the Sharks.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM with the gates opening at 6:00PM.
