Sharks Get it Done With Pitching and Defense

Holly Springs, North Carolina-The Wilmington Sharks shutout the Holly Springs Salamanders for the second time in three days with a 4-0 victory Sunday evening at Ting Stadium.  With the victory, the Sharks improved to 6-9 on the season.

Ethan Meece was masterful in his first start of the season for the Sharks.  He pitched five shutout innings and allowed only two hits, striking out seven.  He struck out three in a row from the end of the first to the start of the second.  He also struck out the side in the fifth.

Max Harpalani came on in relief to begin the sixth.  He pitched the remainder of the game recording the save.  He recorded four strike outs and retired twelve of the thirteen batters he faced.  The only Salamander to reach base against him was Jake Wright who reached on an error to lead off the ninth.

The Sharks got the bats going in the top of the second when Dallas Callahan drew a walk to lead off the inning.  With one out, Cam Jenson singled him to third. Tucker Greer followed with a single to score Callahan and put the Sharks on the board.  Steven Curry then drew a walk to load the bases.  Jenson scored on a sacrifice fly by Clemente Inclan to make it 2-0.

The Sharks loaded the bases with nobody out in the eighth.  Jonah Beamon then came up to bat and singled home two runs to extend the Sharks lead to 4-0.

The Sharks will return to Buck Hardee Field Monday night against the Asheboro Copperheads.  It is Military Night presented by United Service Organizations and Big Talker FM where all active military members and veterans will receive a $5 ticket with a valid ID.  Noah Takac (0-2, 10.80) will start on the mound for the Sharks.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM with the gates opening at 6:00PM.
