The Wilmington Sharks will send two players to the 2019 Coastal Plain League All-Star Showdown at Grayson Stadium in Savannah, Georgia. The game is on Monday July 8 at 7 p.m.
The head coaches voted on players to send to Savannah along with two media representatives from each organization. Then, people voted on the eligible players creating the All-Star teams.
The CPL is a summer collegiate baseball league consisting of 16 franchises in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL has had about 1,550 players drafted into Major League Baseball.
The two players representing the Sharks in this year's All Star Game will be Wichita State infielder Jake Plastiak, and Clemson infielder James Parker.
"We're very happy for these players and honored to have them represent the Sharks during the 2019 Coastal Plain League All-Star Game," says Sharks general manager Carson Bowen. "They have all contributed greatly to our team during the first half and are very deserving of this honor."
Originally from Tinley Park, IL, the 6'3" Wichita State University freshman infielder, Jake Plastiak, has played in 26 games this season with a .949 fielding percentage. While at bat, Plastiak has a .309 batting average with seven home runs and 19 runs batted in.
The Clemson University freshman shortstop from Anderson, SC, James Parker, has played in 17 games this season with a .897 fielding percentage. While at bat, Parker has a .222 batting average with eight double-plays and two runs batted in.
The CPL will nationally televise the All-Star Showdown including a live stream on MLB.com and on the CPL's website. Fans can purchase tickets through the Savannah Bananas at 919-712-2482.
