Wilmington, North Carolina-The Wilmington Sharks scored all their runs with two outs in an 8-1 victory over the Fayetteville SwampDogs Friday night at Buck Hardee Field. The victory improved the Sharks to 3-2 in the second half of play and to 5-4 in the season series with the SwampDogs.
The SwampDogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Ben Norman hit a single to score Brett Brown. With two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the inning, Aaron McKeithan singled. Tucker Greer then drew a walk. Cam Jenson followed with an RBI single to tie the game at one. After Jonah Beamon drew a walk, Noah Bridges who was making his Sharks debut, got his first career hit with a two-run single giving the Sharks a 3-1 lead.
The Sharks began a similar rally in the seventh when Beamon drew a two-out walk and stole second. Bridges followed with a double scoring Beamon to make it 4-1. Cory Everett singled and Chad Fairey walked to load the bases. Bridges brother Zach then hit a grand slam to blow it open. It was the first grand slam by a Sharks player all season.
For the Sharks, starter Cameron Reeves pitched a masterpiece. He gave up just one run off three hits and struck out nine. He finished his performance on a high note by striking out the side in the sixth before Aiden McAllister relieved him to begin the seventh. McAllister threw two shutout innings without allowing any hits. Matt King then came on and pitched a scoreless ninth to seal the victory.
The Sharks will be back in action Saturday night against the Morehead City Marlins at Big Rock Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM.
The Sharks will return to the Shark Tank Monday afternoon for Super Splash Day against the SwampDogs. The gates will open at 10:00AM for a 1:05PM first pitch.
